Comparison of film mammography with new xeroradiographic mammography

Comparison study of film and new xeroradiographic imaging systems was done. The new xeroradiographic process is a liquid toner with a particle size 2.5 times smaller than the powder toner of the older system. The images are gray in the new system instead of blue as in the old system. Xeroradiography was superior as to image information content. High-contrast areas seen in film were resolved by xeroradiography, revealing detail of underlying structures. Calcifications were more readily seen. Imaging of masses was at least equal in fatty breast; however, in dense breast more masses were seen by xeroradiography. Radiation dosage in the new xeroradiography was less than that of the Min-R-Ortho (grid) studies
