Comparison of initial damage rates using neutron and electron irradiation
Description
The purpose of the experiment was twofold: (1) the number of interstitials at pin dislocations was studied as a function of neutron energy; (2) by comparison with electron irradiations on the sample, a correlation between the predicted and measured numbers of defects was found. All irradiations were performed on the same high purity copper sample. The sample was machined in the form of a cantilever beam with a flexural resonant frequency of 770 Hz. Changes in Young's modulus at constant strain amplitude were monitored continuously through changes in the resonant frequency of the sample
