Measurement of tensile properties using small punch test
Creators
- 1. Post Irradiation Examination Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)
Description
Small punch test was carried out at room temperature on seven different steels using 10 mm by 10 mm specimens of 0.4 mm thickness in a universal testing machine. The test involved loading supported and clamped specimen with suitably shaped penetrating punch, deforming it to failure and analyzing the resulting load deflection plot. The report describes the test set up, the methodology as optimized, and inter-comparison of the tensile properties of the steels obtained from small punch test with those obtained from the standard test method.
