The acceleration and compression of spherical targets by longwave laser emission

Description

In this paper hydrodynamic corona models and a model of the acceleration of a thin shell target under longwave laser pulse action are developed. The coefficient of hydrodynamic transmission of absorbed laser energy is calculated and methods of achieving higher values of this coefficient are determined. The spectral requirements on the fast electrons needed for low-entropy compression of reactor scale targets with a hydrodynamic efficiency of 5-10% are formulated. Analytical results are compared to numerical calculations obtained using the ''Diana'' program
