Contribution of Intermediate-Energy Neutrons to the Neutron Dose-Equivalent Outside the Shielding of Reactors and High-Energy Accelerators

  • 1. Euratom, Central Bureau of Nuclear Measurements, Geel (Belgium)

Description

By a difference method, the contribution of intermediate-energy neutrons to the neutron dose-equivalent outside the shielding of reactors and high-energy accelerators has been measured. The results indicate that intermediate-energy neutrons may sometimes contribute the major portion of the neutron dose-equivalent and that, in general, only dosimeters which cover the intermediate-energy range and which are independent of special spectral distributions should be used.
