State of the cyclotrons

Description

The Cyclotron Facility at the Institute for Quantum Medical Science houses two cyclotrons: a large cyclotron (NIRS-930) operational since 1974 and a small cyclotron (HM-18) dedicated to the production of PET radiopharmaceuticals since 1994. Despite aging infrastructure, the facility has maintained beam supply operations through repeated repairs. This fiscal year, a new beam energy request for a 75 MeV neon beam was received and beam development was conducted. However, during the latter half of the machine time period, a fire broke out near the main coil power supply, causing operations to halt. This report details the current status and recovery plans. Abstract (Japanese)

量子医科学研究所のサイクロトロン施設には、2台のサイクロトロンが設置されている。1台は、1974年に運転開始をした大型サイクロトロン(NIRS-930)で、もう1台は、1994年よりPET診断薬の製造を専門に行っている小型サイクロトロン(HM-18)である。2台のサイクロトロンを含め、サイクロトロン施設では老朽化が進むなかで、各所修繕を繰り返しながらビーム供給運転を続けていた。本年度の新たなビームエネルギーとしては、75MeVネオンのビーム依頼がありビーム開発を行った。しかしながら、後期マシンタイム期間中に、メインコイル電源付近からの出火により、火災が発生し、火災以降は停止状態となっている。現状や、復旧計画等について報告を行う。(著者)
