Neutron resonances in 165Ho and the five fold correlation test of time reversal

Description

We report the results of a new high resolution study of neutron resonances below 500 eV in 165Ho carried out at the ORELA neutron time of flight facility. We find new resonances which are canidates for five-fold correlation time reversal violation studies. We show how the deformation effect can be used to identify small d-wave admixtures in predominately s-wave resonances, opening up the possibility for a sensitive parity-conserving time reversal test. We estimate both the deformation effect and time reversal violating cross sections using average d-wave strengths estimated from penetrabilities
