Negative Results on the Verification of Reported 'Cold Fusion' Phenomena in NaxWO3/(D; D-T) System

Description

To check the reports on a low-temperature dd-fusion to be held in the Institute of High-Temperature Electro-Chemistry (Ekaterinburg) the experimental research with NaxWO3/deuterium systems was carried out. Within the limits of statistical errors, the excess of neutron yield above the background level under the interaction of deuterium with oxide tungsten bronze was not found. The experimental results are not also evidence in favour of a suggestion that a 'hot' dt-fusion can be possible in a system of such type. The results of this research have cast some suspicion on the validity of conclusions in IHTEC reports. At the 90% confidence level the upper limit estimation of intensity of a hypothetical neutron source owing to dd- and dt-fusions in monocrystals of oxide tungsten bronze was less than 5·10-3 s-1. 16 refs., 6 figs
