The role of crack tip opening in corrosion fatigue for the ductile ferritic steel-water system

Creators

Description

A limited attempt is made to examine the role of the material fatigue crack tip processes in corrosion fatigue situations. The aim is initially to explain the trend of data obtained on the ductile ferritic steel-water system as a first step to predicting the bounds on corrosion fatigue crack growth behaviour. Particular reference is made to crack growth experiments on A533-B steel in simulated pressurised water reactor (PWR) water and the role of mean stress is examined in some detail. (author)
