Description
The greatest contribution to mankind's exposure comes from natural background radiation and the worldwide average annual effective dose per capita is 2.4 mSv (UNSCEAR, 2000). Soil radionuclide activity concentration is one of the main determinants of the natural background radiation. The most common terrestrial radionuclides that produce gamma rays are 238U and 232Th daughter products, primordial 40K and fallout level 137Cs. The primary objective of the present study is to determine the activity levels of 238U, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs in soil and their contribution to dose rate around Mithivirdi environment
