Chromium ion electron state and lattice sites in garnet crystals
Description
Results of experimental and theoretic investigations into optical spectra of Y3Al5O12, Gd3Sc5O12, Gd3, Sc2, Ga3, O12 crystals activated by Cr,Mg or Ca ions and subjected to different thermal treatment and irradiation are presented. It is shown that irradiation of crystals produced under reduction conditions leads to formation of colour centers with Cr4+ ions in octahedral positions with the absorption in UV visible range. Oxidation annealing leads to production of centers with Cr4+ in tetrahedral absorption in 1-2μm region
