Method of manufacturing sintered nuclear fuel pellets
Description
The pellets are made of UO2 powder, containing up to 10 wt % U3O8 and possibly up to 10% Gd2O3 or other neutron absorber materials. The particle size of the powder is as follows: 10-25 wt % below 1.5 μm, 75-90 wt % around 1.5-100 μm, the average being 6-11 μm. This powder is produced by throwing the original powder mixture against a solid surface by means of a gas flow. The average particle size of the original powder is 7-15 μm, 94 wt % of it having particle size 1.5-100 μm. (G.B.)
