Dynamical structure of the pion

Description

The dynamics of light quarks was studied using a modified New Tamm-Dancoff amplitude introduced by Suura. This amplitude naturally leads to a linear confining potential. The short distance structure of the equation is similar to the Salpeter equation An examination of the potential showed that, at distances small compared to the Compton wavelength of the quarks, the Coulombic potential is suppressed and the l/r singularity is reduced to a logarithmic one. The suppression of the singularity resulted in a finite value for the component of the wavefunction which is related to pion decay. It was, therefore, possible to give an unambiguous calculation of f/sub π/, the pion decay constant. Numerical calculations of the masses of the pion and the B meson were made as well as calculations of f/sub π/ and the charge radius of the pion. The numerical results point to the necessity of including magnetic interactions which were neglected in this calculation
