Role of the μ-capture by iron nuclei in formation of neutron fields around muon absorbers in high-energy hadron beams
Creators
Description
The work is aimed at the estimation of the levels of low energy (E<10 MeV) neutron fields appearing due to muons minus absorption by the nuclei of radiation shield material of the U-70 proton synchrotron and muon absorber placed on the channel of secondary particles. The transport of neutrons produced due to μ--capture by ion nuclei in a steel muon absorber at different modes of accelerator operation is calculated. It is shown that in the case of neutrino channel operation in the mode of negative particle focusing dose field near the muon absorber is completely determined by neutrons produced in the above reaction. In the case of neutrino channel operation with the intensity of 1013 protons per cycle in the mode of negative particle focusing on the surface of muon absorber at the distance of 12 m from its beginning dose rate levels determined by the above neutron component will exceed those maximum permissible by about 10 times
