Moessbauer spectrometric investigations in frozen aqueous solutions of sodium pyrophosphate-tin chloride, at 77 K

The Moessbauer spectrum of 119Sn in a frozen aqueous sodium pyrophosphate-tin(II) chloride solution, at the concentration used for intravenous bone tracer injection, was recorded. The Moessbauer parameters included isomeric shift I.S = 3.2 mm s-1 and quadrupole splitting Q.S. = 1.76 mm s-1. The addition of SnCl2.2H2O to the solution gave rise to a precipitate, having in the solid state the same Moessbauer parameters. They are significantly different from those recorded on a SnCl2.2H2O frozen solution. These results confirm the existence of a pyrophosphate-Sn complex in the solution. It is stable and at this concentration it contains the major part of tin. (author)
