Optimal arrangement of discrete radiosources in the continuous medium

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Tsentral'nyj Ehkonomiko-Matematicheskij Inst.

Description

At present the choice of an acceptable scheme of arranging discrete radio sources and distribution of the radioactive charge in them are mainly accomplished according to empirical rules suggested by Paterson and Parker that cannot embrace all cases occurring in radiotherapy or give a chance to improve the method of arrangement of radioactive preparations, i.e. in each specific case to choose the best physico-technical conditions of irradiation. For the first time the mathematical interpretation of the common problem of choice of the optimal physico-technical conditions of irradiation in intratissue and intracavitary radiotherapy is given and the problem of the optimal arrangement of point radioactive sources of radiation on a segment is considered. Results of the solution on a computer by means of specially elaborated algorithms are given, and a comparative of the problem analysis with the conventional method of an even arrangement of radiation sources is made
