Description
Studied are absorption and reflection spectra of thin films of SmS semiconductor phase at room temperature in the photon energy region from 0.06 to 2.3 eV. From the shape of frequency dependence of absorption at the edge of the absorption band it is shown that the lowest extremum of the conduction band is formed from the 4f66s states and energy gap is equal to 0.15 eV. The fine structure of absorption and reflection spectra due to splitting of initial and final electron states, was detected experimentally for the first time
