Radiation dose monitoring for radiographic projections

Description

Monitoring radiographic-projection exposure and tissue dose (TD) is simplified with a spread-sheet program by which measured values of half-value layer (HVL) and mR/mAs as a function of kVp can be related to ESE and TD. Compared with Rosenstein's standards, current radiographic techniques yield HVLs 1.3 times greater and 0.5 times less for ESE and TD. However, TD is frequently larger than the standard value for chest, ribs, pelvis, and kidney/urinary/bladder films and for intravenous pyelography, in part because of large HVL. This study establishes that software designed to monitor dose must include TD and a comparison of determined values to a standard
