Contribution of pulsars to the flux of galactic gamma rays

  • 1. Durham Univ. (UK)

Description

Conclusions about the distribution of cosmic ray nuclei in the Galaxy from studies of Galactic gamma rays rely heavily on the assumption that the contribution from unresolved pulsars is small. The relationship between gamma ray emission and radio emission for detected pulsars is used to estimate the likely contribution from unresolved pulsars. It is shown that the best estimate of the pulsar - induced fraction is 5-10%. (author)
