Suppression of piping vibration by Houde damper
- 1. Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., Tokyo (Japan)
Description
This paper deals with the experimental results of a Houde damper (a kind of dynamic vibration absorber) using an eddy current brake. The damper consists of pairs of permanent magnets and a copper plate acting as a conductor. Vibration tests of the straight and 3-dimensional piping models confirmed that the damper is effective in reducing small and large amplitude vibrations in the piping model. The vibration reduction effect of the damper is almost linear, and vibrations in two directions can be suppressed simultaneously. The damper also does not require tuning of the natural frequency of the damper to that of the piping model. (author)
