Description

The nature of color and luminescence centres occurring in yttrium-aluminium garnet crystals is discussed on the basis of optical absorption (OA) and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. The samples have been irradiated by neutrons of energy E > 0.2 MeV (with neutron doses 1016 to 1019 n/cm2) creating structure damages. Thermal annealing (also in oxidizing atmosphere), bleaching, cooling and quenching experiments permit the coordination of OA bands and PL emission bands to different centres in ferrite garnet crystals
