The exchange reaction, D+HCl→DCl+H
Description
The exchange reaction, D+HCl→DCl+H has been studied directly using a fast discharge flow apparatus attached to an EPR spectrometer. At 295 K, its rate constant was measured as less than 6x10-16 cm3 molecule-1 s-1. At 1000 K, its rate constant was measured as (1.6+-0.9)x10-13 cm3 molecule-1 s-1, and exchange was found to be 1/20 as fast as abstraction. Previous work is discussed in the light of these findings.
