Description
The principles of the investigation of polarized X-ray emission spectra (PXES) emitted by single crystals of monocubic symmetry are outlined including a general theory of the PXES. The polarization properties are described and the relations between the polarized K emission bands and the electronic structure are investigated. The higher information content of the PXES can be shown, especially with respect to the investigation of m-resolved density of states. Experimental possibilities for selecting polarized components of radiation emitted by the single crystal samples are discussed. Some important spectrometer arrangements for measuring PXES are presented. A series of investigated PXES is reviewed and discussed. The polarized X-ray core line spectra (V2O5) are considered, predominantly however, the emission from valence electron states of layer crystals (BN, MoS2), h.c.p. metals (Be), oxides (V2O5), and of oriented molecules and complexes in crystals (nitroprusside ion)
