Image enhancement in PET scanning with the Royal Marsden Hospital MWPC camera (MUP-PET)

Description
This article presents preliminary results of applying space-variant, texture-dependent image processing algorithms to images of the distribution of positron labelled radiopharmaceuticals from the clinical prototype RMH positron camera (MUP-PET). Based on the concept of pixel value significance, an image processing algorithm has been developed which yields tomographic data in a form which should enable the clinician to distinghish real detail from artefactual and noise structures in the images.
