Description
UV has variable effects on plant growth and yields. Over 300 species have been screened for UVB sensitivity, and over half showed sensitivity. In some cases, UV has been shown to reduce yields of some varieties while having little effect or even increasing the yields of others. These experiments included a wide variety of important crop plants (eg wheat, soybean, trees, (conifers) etc). The data show that selective breeding might be used to improve UVB tolerance of various important species. (author)
