Vibrational spectra of alkaline earth metal metavanadates

  • 1. AN SSSR, Sverdlovsk. Inst. Khimii

Description

IR (300-1100 cm-1) and Raman spectra of magnesium, calcium, strontium and barium metavanadates, are analyzed taking into account peculiarities of their crystal structure. The difference of strontium and barium metavanadates spectra from the spectra of magnesium and calcium vanadates in the frequency range of valent oscillations is connected with different structure of anion sublattices. A large number of crystallographically and translationally nonequivalent edge V-O-bonds in chains of vanadium-oxygen polyhedrons in Sr(VO3)2 and Ba(VO3V3)2 as compared with Mg(VO3)2 and Ca(VO3)2 leads to a greater number of frequencies higher than 800 cm-1 in vibrational spectra of the two first compounds
