Development of a friction damper and application to piping systems in nuclear power plants

  • 1. Tokyo Univ. (Japan)

Description

A three-dimensional piping system model supported by the friction dampers was shaked to find the damping characteristics of the piping model and the test results were compared with a nonlinear time history analysis. From the study, it was confirmed that the friction damper can greatly increase the damping of a 3-dimensional piping system compared to the conventional supports such as snubbers as well as the effect for a 1-span piping model.
