Data-to-potential inversion for tensor polarized deuterons scattered from 4He

Description

We present an extensive study of d→+alpha scattering based on multi-energy, spin-1, data-to-potential inversion of d→+alpha scattering data, for energies up to 13 MeV. A complex potential having central, spin-orbit and TR tensor components is presented with different components having varying degrees of uniqueness. The potential has a strongly parity dependent tensor component and appears to have a significant energy dependence over the energy range studied. Reasonable agreement is found with previous phase shift analyses within the limits of both types of model, except near the J=1 phase shift crossing for which new predictions are made. Some potential components are qualitatively explained by known phenomena but the unusual features of the even-parity terms, specifically the tensor potential, suggest the effect of reaction and exchange processes which cannot be represented by smooth potentials. The generalized iterative perturbative inversion procedure is shown to be a powerful method for fitting large, multi-energy, datasets with a single energy dependent potential
