The potential of isotopic tailoring for titanium

Description
This paper considers the potential of isotopic tailoring of titanium in optimising the safety and environmental advantages of fusion power, especially in the areas of waste management and recycling. It is shown that reductions in the post-exposure activity, γ-dose rate and decay heat by several orders of magnitude would be possible using 50Ti-enriched titanium. It is suggested that laser isotope selection may offer an economical route for isotopic tailoring of modest quantities of titanium for use in vanadium-based alloys and titanium ceramic coatings, for example.
