X-ray high pressure investigation of Cr-SmC-N triple point

Description
In this short note, an attempt is made to give more information about the liquid crystal having a smectic C (SmC) phase which is followed immediately by a nematic phase. Shashidhar and Chandrasekhar using a polarizing microscope found that the SmC phase disappeared at high pressure and as a result the solid-smectic C-nematic triple point occurred. This result has not been confirmed by Guillon et al. using the X-ray method. The second common opinion is that in such liquid crystal compounds the layer spacing of the smectic C phase is independent of temperature (de Vries). (orig.)
