Description

The authors have calculated mass and kinetic energy spectra for thermal, 5.5 MeV and 22.0 MeV neutron induced fission of 239Pu, 15.5 MeV neutron induced fission of 235U and 27.5 MeV alpha induced fission of 232Th. Calculated spectra are in good agreement with data. They have further provided an explanation of cold fission and calculated cold fission probabilities relative to the most probable decay probabilities for thermal neutron induced fission of 235U and alpha induced fission of 226Ra to a number of daughter pairs. Calculations in all cases are based on a statistical model with an external barrier between saddle and scission points. Such a barrier is expected from a many body approach using realistic two nucleon interaction
