Description
This paper presents benchmarks of the MCCI model in MAAP5.02 against the OECD CCI experiment series (MAAP5.02 is the latest version of MAAP which is owned by Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and is developed and maintained by Fauske and Associates, LLC). Two experiments, CCI-2 and CCI-3, in the CCI Series were selected for comparisons. The basemat in the CCI-2 experiment is made of limestone-common-sand (LCS) concrete and the basemat of CCI-3 is made of siliceous concrete. For both the experiments, the transients before and after water addition into the test vessel have been simulated, and key parameters including ablation depths, melt temperatures, and heat fluxes to water have been compared. It was found that some of the modeling parameters in the MCCI model must be adjusted to have agreement with the experimental data. Aspects in the MCCI model that may potentially affect the simulation results are discussed. (authors)
