Influence of reactor and cyclotron irradiation on microstructure changes and strength performances of iron and molybdenum under their post-radiation ageing process

  • 1. Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki, Almaty (Kazakhstan)

Description

Examinations of structure changes and strength performances of iron and molybdenum immediately after reactor and cyclotron irradiation as well as after long time aging at room temperature were carried out. Samples of molybdenum with plane shape after annealing at 1100 deg. C for 2 h in vacuum 1.3 MPa were irradiated in the WWR-K reactor up to the fluence 1.1·1019, 1.2·1020, 3·1020 and 6.2·1020 n/cm2. Iron samples after thermal treatment were implanted by helium (up to 10-2 at%) on cyclotron by the way of irradiation of iron planes with alpha-particles with initial energy 50 MeV. Mechanical tests were conducted on the Intron 1195 device under room temperature. Structure was examined by methods of metallography and transmission electron microscopy. Suggestions about mechanisms both structure-phase changes taking place in irradiated materials and conditions resulting the post-radiation ageing effect are expressed
