Numerical analysis of Fraunhofer-diffraction profiles

  • 1. Kyushu Univ., Fukuoka (Japan)

Description

For the precise extraction of the plasma-wave information from the Fraunhofer-diffraction method, the general solutions of the Fraunhofer-diffraction profiles were numerically integrated, and the results were compared with the previously obtained approximate analytical solutions. It was found that, (i) the wave intensity is greatly reduced in the numerical solution, and (ii) the overall Fraunhofer-profiles by numerical solutions, and therefore (k-vector, ω) information obtaind from it, are much different from analytical solutions when the incident electromagnetic wave obliquely crosses the plasma-waves. It is indicated that numerical results should be used in interpreting experimental data for these cases. (author)
