Specific features of electroslag remelting of titanium alloy ingots

Description

Considered is the process of electric slag remelting of ingots of the titanium VT14 alloy and the quality of ingots of various cross sections obtained in a chamber furnace filled with an inert gas under pressure. Calcium fluoride was used as an additive. The temperature distribution along the catalyst height, the time variation in slag temperature, and the dependence of the melting rate on the power supplied were investigated. It is shown that electric slag remelting yields compact ingots of various configuration with high mechanical properties and a good surface, which requires no machining prior to further deformation
