General regularities of hydrogen catalytic oxidation on carbides of transition metals of 4-6 group

Description

General features of hydrogen catalytic oxidation on carbides of transitory metals of the 4-6 groups (ZrC, HfC, VC, NbC, TaC, Mo2C, WC) are formulated. These catalysts advantageously combine a rather high stationary catalytic activity with chemical and thermal stability both in O2 and in H2 surplus. Reaction in O2 surplus obeys a mechanism involving dissociative chemisorption of oxygen and H2 interaction with the adsorbed oxygen. In accordance with this mechanism the catalytic activity of carbides decreases with the increase in the binding energy between oxygen and the catalyst. By catalysis in H2 surplus the reaction mechanism changes for most of the carbides studied and involves now the hydrogen dissociative chemisorption
