Gamma-activation analysis of defractory carbide and inorganic glasses

Full text: Analytical possibilities of gamma-activation analysis of refractory carbide and inorganic glasses on the heavy-current betatron SB-50 of Institute of Applied Physics of National University of Uzbekistan are experimentally investigated. The samples were irradiated with Bremsstrahlung of Eγmax=30 MeV maximum energy. For increasing the density of the Bremsstrahlung flux, we used the device for the intra-chamber irradiation of samples in combination with pneumatic transport system K5-2A The device is mounted at a distance of 14 cm from the tungsten target of a high-current SB-50 betatron, which allows the samples to be transferred in plastic containers without a risk of overheating. The induced activities were measured by gamma-spectrometer equipped with a 63 cm3 Ge(Li)-semiconductor detector. Gamma-spectra were studied with 4095 channel pulse height analyzer LP-4900. The counting system had a resolution of ∼3.5 keV for the 1332 keV γ-line of 60Co. Gamma-activation analysis of refractory carbide were carried out in following time a mode: time of an irradiation of 30-60 min, a pause prior to the beginning of measurement of 10-60 min, measurements of 10-60 minutes. Weight of samples make 30-50 g. In inorganic glasses contents Mg, Si, Cu, Ba and Pb are simultaneously determined. The limit of detection for these elements makes 10-4-10-6 g. Time modes of analyses: time of an irradiation of 10 min, a pause prior to the beginning of measurement of 1-6 min, measurement of 10 minutes
