Effect of uniaxial pressure on the magnetic properties in PrFe4P12

Description
We have studied the effect of uniaxial pressure on PrFe4P12. The magnetic susceptibility is largely enhanced for the uniaxial pressure applied parallel to the magnetic field, i.e., Pu parallel H parallel <100>. On the other hand, the magnetic susceptibility is slightly decreased for uniaxial pressure applied perpendicular to the magnetic field, i.e. Pu parallel <001>, H parallel <100>. The anisotropic effect is expected to be originated partly from the effect of symmetry breaking on the non-magnetic CEF ground state responsible for the quadrupole interaction, which is believed to play an important role in this compound.
