Activation cross-sections for safety and environmental assessments of fusion reactors
Description
The deuterium-tritium fueled fusion reaction does not directly produce radioactive products. Radioactivity in fusion is induced by the 14 MeV neutrons. Hence activation products and levels of activity in fusion reactors depend primarily on materials, neutron wall loading, and operating times. Safety and environmental aspects of fusion reactors are determined by radioactivity induced characteristics: decay heat, biological hazard potential, dose rate, and waste disposal rating. In this paper the important activation cross sections are identified that are relevant to determination of the above quantities for potential fusion reactor materials
