Effect of ionizing radiation on production of heterokaryons and the interaction of their nuclei

  • 1. Ceskoslovenska Akademie Ved, Brno. Biofysikalni Ustav

Description

The capacity of cell fusion as well as of DNA synthesis was studied in both a mixed population of 2 lines of irradiated and non-irradiated mouse cells, and in heterokaryons resulting from their fusion. It was shown that cells X-irradiated with doses of 5-50 Gy are able to fuse with non-irradiated cells, and even to a higher frequency than non-irradiated cells and that the nucleus of non-irradiated cells may have a favorable effect on DNA synthesis in the irradiated nucleus with which it forms a heterokaryon
