Meson masses in a gauge theory with a harmonic-oscillator potential

Description
Meson masses are investigated in the asymptotically free colored-quark-gluon model. The harmonic oscillator is employed as an unperturbed confinement potential; the one-gluon-exchange force is treated perturbatively. Symmetry breakings of the unperturbed and perturbed potentials are assumed to be due only to mass differences between quarks. For mesons with nonzero internal angular momentum, masses are well reproduced, whereas a serious difficulty arises for S-wave mesons. Reasonable values are obtained for all the parameters such as the gluon-quark coupling constant, the oscillator constant, and so on. The correct confinement potential seems to be not far from the harmonic oscillator
