Description

The authors comment on the previous paper by Goertz, et. al., which they had refereed prior to the authors deaths. They question a number of correlations claimed in that paper. In particular the auroral electrojet index observed, and that infered from ISEE 3 measurements. They also point out possible problems with a cutoff time filter applied to data used in the study. This filter would remove high frequency variations in the electrojet observations. Goertz, et. al. obtain equations for the ionospheric electric field which mimic the field across a resistor in an inductive circuit driven by a time varying voltage. The authors argue that their success in making predictions based on these equations is a consequence of several factors which they did not fully explore
