Improvement of the wear properties of cutting tools implanted with nitrogen ions

Description

The paper presents the results of the industrial tests of cutting tools subjected to the nitrogen ion implantation, both conventional and performed using PIII (Plasma Immersion Ion Implantation) process. The tools were made of the NC10 and SW7M tool steel. The nitrogen doses ranged from 3 x 1017 to 2 x 1018 cm-2. Significant improvements of the tool life have been found. (author)
