On the effects of the biologically active substances procaine and turigeran

  • 1. Humboldt-Universitaet, Berlin (German Democratic Republic). Bereich Medizin (Charite)

Description

The influence of prolonged procaine or turigeran therapy on the cellular kinetics of the mucous membranes of liver and small intestine was studied by means of 3H-thymidine histoautoradiography in a total of 240 one year old male Wistar rats. The pool of DNA synthesizing liver parenchyma cells and Kupffer's cells in the animals treated with procaine and turigeran, respectively, was clearly increased compared with that of the untreated controls. Nor did the cellular kinetics of the mucosa of the small intestine exhibit any differences between the animals treated with procaine and those treated with turigeran. Since, on the other hand, significant differences appeared between the treated animals and the untreated controls regarding all characteristics of cellular kinetics, this effect must be attributed to the procaine.
