Description
The bosonized Schwinger model and the two-dimensional Stueckelberg model are shown to be equivalent, and both are generalized to four dimensions via the topological gauge field Asub(μ upsilon rho). The resolution of the U(1) problem in the former and the Higgs mechanism in the latter are closely related; in covariant gauges they imply the decoupling of 'dual' Kogut-Susskind dipoles. (orig.)
