Responses of thermoluminescent materials to beta radiation and low energy photons

  • 1. National Radiological Protection Board, Chilton (UK)

Description

The responses in terms of the individual dose equivalent, superficial, Hsub(s)(d), of a number of commercially available thermoluminescent materials to beta radiation were investigated and compared with the responses of the same materials to low energy photons. The maximum beta energies used ranged from 0.067 to 2.27 MeV and the photon energies ranged from 0.033 to 0.662 MeV. All irradiations were carried out on appropriate tissue-equivalent phantoms. The results of these studies served to identify materials and configurations suitable for personal dosimetry in mixed beta-photon fields. (author)
