Propagation of intense thermal pulses in superfluid helium

  • 1. Electrotechnical Institute, Novosibirsk

Description

We discuss the results and conclusions drawn in a number of articles devoted to thermal pulses in He II, paying particular attention to the hypothesis that a vapor film is formed when the walls are heated for a short time. We comment on possible mechanisms for vortex formation in second sound shock waves. Results from the theory of nonlinear waves in He II are used to discuss a number of effects observed in the articles cited
