New magnetic phases in the La-Sr-Cu-O system

  • 1. Racah Inst. of Physics, Hebrew Univ., Jerusalem (Israel)

Description

The competition between superconductivity (SC) and magnetic order in the CuO2 planes of (La1-zGdz)2-xSrxCu1-yMyO4, M=Fe, Zn, Ga and Ni was studied by magnetometry and 57Fe Moessbauer spectroscopy. In the superconducting (x=0.15-0.2) samples substitution of La by Gd or Cu by Fe causes SC to disappear and magnetic order at TN=13 K to be formed. On the other hand, substitution in the CuO2 planes by Zn, Ga or Ni suppresses SC and inhibits magnetic order in the plane. This behavior is similar to that found in Y1-xPrxBa2(Cu1-yMy)3Oz. (orig.)
