New criteria for evaluation of behavior of metals under mechanical loading

Description
Based on the phonon concept about materials fracturing new criteria of metal behaviour evaluation are proposed for static and cyclic loading. It is concluded that changes in alloy composition, structure and heat treatment do not result in smooth variation of the criteria which characterize the process of fracturing but shift a bearing capacity of the alloy from one level to another. Numerical values of new criteria are represented for a number of metals (Li, Mg, Al, Ti, Fe, Ni, Cu), steels and aluminium base alloys. The criteria proposed can be used in selection of promising materials for machine building. 31 refs.; 3 figs.; 2 tabs
