Preliminary results on a source of monochromatic photons produced by annihilation in flight of positrons

Description

An experiment is described in which monochromatic photons are produced by annihilation in flight of relativistic positrons obtained from the beam of electrons leaving a linear accelerator. The preliminary results show that, in accordance with expectations, this process makes it possible to obtain in practice a source of photons with a narrow spectrum and variable energy. Abstract (French)

Nous decrivons une experience de production de photons monochromatiques par annihilation en vol de positons relativistes obtenus a partir du faisceau d'electrons sortant d'un accelerateur lineaire. Les resultats preliminaires obtenus montrent que, conformement aux previsions, ce processus permet l'obtention pratique d'une source de photons de spectre etroit et d'energie variable. Reproduction d'un article publie dans les Comptes rendus des seances de l'Academie des Sciences, t. 249, p. 2543-2545, seance du 9 decembre 1959
